The Town Is Part of the Day

Before you head to the farm, Bulahdelah itself is worth a stop. A proper country town, easy to navigate, with everything you need after a couple of hours on the highway from Maitland.

Tourist Information Centre

Pull in, stretch your legs, grab a coffee and use the facilities. The information centre sits right off the highway and is the perfect first stop after the drive north. Friendly staff, clean bathrooms, and a chance to get your bearings before the short drive out to the farm.

The Famous Bulahdelah Bakery

The Bulahdelah Bakery has earned its reputation one meat pie at a time — a local institution that's well worth the detour. Grab something before heading out to the farm, or stop in afterwards to round out the day. Either way, don't drive past it.

The Session

What Happens on the Day

A 2-hour session starting at 10am. Here's how it runs.

Arrival & Introduction

Your group arrives and is introduced to Dusty May, Hercules, Jax and Murphy — four Clydesdales with four very different personalities. Murphy in particular tends to make a strong first impression.

Live Working Demonstration

Watch the Clydesdales put through a genuine working demonstration. These horses were bred to work the land, and seeing them move under harness is something cameras struggle to do justice to.

Heavy Horse Harness Display

A full working heavy horse harness on display — touch the leather collar, handle the hames and traces, and understand what it actually takes to hitch 800kg of Clydesdale to a plough. Living history you can hold in your hands.

Meet, Feed & Photograph

Everyone gets personal time with the horses — feeding by hand, patting, and as many photos as you like. Bring carrots. Bring a wide-angle lens. These are not small animals and the photos will prove it.

Questions & Interaction

Plenty of time to linger, ask questions and enjoy the moment. Over 30 years of experience means there's always a good story to go with the horses. Nobody gets rushed off the property.

This Is Dusty May

Dusty May is one of four Clydesdales you'll meet on the day — alongside Hercules, Jax and Murphy. Between them, they cover every mood from stately to mischievous, and every visitor leaves with a favourite.

These are working animals from a bloodline with genuine history. Over 30 years of experience behind every session. There's nothing like it within 2.5 hours of Maitland — and not much like it anywhere in NSW.

Wheelchair accessible, undercover seating, walker frames welcome — the farm is set up so everyone in the group can fully participate, regardless of mobility.
