How a Bowls Club Visit Works

Sessions begin at 10am and run for approximately 2 hours. Here's what a typical visit looks like from arrival to farewell.

Arrival — 10:00am

Coach Arrives & Welcome

Your coach pulls onto the property and members disembark at their own pace. There's no rush and no crowds — this is a private group booking, so the whole experience is yours for the morning. Your host meets the group, outlines the session, and answers any immediate questions. Tea and coffee are available while everyone settles in at the undercover seating area.

Introduction to the Clydesdales

Your host introduces Dusty May, Hercules, Jax, and Murphy the donkey — sharing the story of each animal, their role on the property, and the history of the Clydesdale breed in Australia. Members learn how these horses were the backbone of Australian agriculture for generations, and what it takes to work with them today. There's time for questions and plenty of room for memories to surface.

Working Demonstration & Handling

Watch the horses at work — harnessing, ground handling, and demonstration of traditional working horse activities. Members who wish to can get up close, hand-feed, and pat the horses under guidance. Our Clydesdales are gentle and experienced with visitors. For those who prefer to watch, the undercover seating area has a clear view of the demonstration area the whole time.

Meet Murphy the Donkey & Free Time

Murphy — described by one visitor as "the most opinionated animal I've ever met" — always steals the show. This is free time for members to wander at their own pace, take photos, revisit the horses, or simply sit and enjoy the setting. It's often the part of the day people talk about most — the unstructured moments where real connections happen.

The session wraps up around midday. Many groups choose to continue into Bulahdelah township — a charming Mid North Coast town with cafes, a bakery, and the famous Bulahdelah Mountain lookout nearby — for lunch before heading home. We're happy to suggest local options that can accommodate larger groups with advance notice.

Unlike many rural experiences that involve uneven ground, long walks between attractions, or the assumption that everyone can stand for an hour, our visit is built around a central, accessible undercover area. The horses come to you.

What to Tell Your Members

Wear: Closed-toe shoes. Comfortable, casual clothing. A hat for sun protection before reaching the undercover area.

Bring: Camera or phone for photos. Any personal medications. A light jacket in cooler months — the property can be cool in the morning.

Leave at home: Strong perfumes (horses are sensitive to strong scents). High heels are not recommended on a working property.

How many people can you accommodate in one visit?

We can host groups of up to 50 guests in a single session. If your bowls club is larger than that, please call us and we can discuss options — in some cases we can arrange back-to-back sessions or split your group across two visit dates. For the best experience, we recommend groups of 20–40 as the ideal size.

Is the property fully accessible for wheelchairs and mobility aids?

Yes. The main visitor area and demonstration area are on flat, compacted ground. Wheelchairs and walking frames can move freely between the coach drop-off, the undercover seating area, and the horse demonstration area. There is a portable toilet on-site. If you have specific accessibility requirements for members in your group, please mention them when you enquire and we'll give you a detailed rundown of exactly what to expect.

Can our coach park on the property?

Yes, absolutely. Coach access is one of the key reasons bowls clubs and senior groups choose us. Your coach can drive directly onto the property and park on-site. Members can disembark directly onto flat ground. There is no need to park on the roadside or walk from a remote drop-off point. Please advise the size of your coach when you make your booking so we can confirm the best access route.

How long is the session, and what time does it start?

Our group sessions begin at 10:00am and run for approximately 2 hours, finishing around midday. This timing is intentional — it avoids peak heat in summer, allows your group to be on the road to Bulahdelah township for a lunch stop by midday, and works well with typical coach hire schedules. Please aim to arrive a few minutes before 10am to allow members to settle before the session begins.

What should members wear and bring?

Closed-toe shoes are essential on a working property — open sandals and thongs are not suitable. Comfortable, casual clothing and a hat are recommended. Members with mobility aids should bring them as usual. A light jacket can be useful in the cooler months, as mornings on the property can be fresh. Cameras and phones are very welcome — you'll want them. Avoid wearing strong perfume or cologne, as horses can be sensitive to strong scents.

How do we make a booking and what's the deposit?

Is there anywhere for lunch nearby after the visit?

Yes. Bulahdelah township is just a short drive from the property and has several cafes, a bakery, and hotel dining that are accustomed to larger groups. Many of our visiting bus groups stop in for lunch before heading home, making for a very satisfying full-day outing. If you'd like recommendations for venues that can accommodate your group size, we're happy to suggest a few when you book.

Do you run visits for school groups?

No. Our group visits are designed for adult social groups — bowls clubs, garden clubs, seniors groups, tourist coaches, and similar. We are not set up for school groups and do not offer school excursion packages. If you are an adult group or social organisation, you are very welcome.
